When we were kids
We were best friends
Playing, talking, hanging out
Skating on the pond.
Life was simple, we were friends
No need to question, it just was.

Life throws curves we can’t foresee
We grew apart and made new friends
We haven’t talked for many years
But you were often in my thoughts
I wondered how and where you were
And did you keep your playful spirit.

Today I learned your star burned out.
Far too young to travel on
You’re memory leaves an empty space
A little space within my heart
That I reserved just for you
That no one else can fill.

Sometimes words are only words and nothing can express the loss of friends and memories, even from your distant past. This is for Lorraine (not her real name).

I love to hear from my readers! Don't be shy.
