Dragonfly delight

She darts across the pond
Watching for the others.
Iridescent wings
Glisten in the morning sun.
Mist drifts and slowly rises.
Her own reflection glimmers
in the calm dark water.
A landing pad appears ahead.
A lily pad if truth be known.
White blossoms welcome her
Waiting petals stretching wide.
She lands and rests
Defines her bearings.
She seeks the willows
Where the creeping brook
Becomes the pond.
The first spring hatch
Should be rising soon.
Mayflies from the depths.
Fine dining on the pond.
Everyone who’s anyone
Will be on hand.
Must be early.
Reservations not required.
Prime seating near the cattails.
