NOTE: Time to finish off the mystery of the ruby ring. You  might wish to read Part 1  and Part 2 of “The Ruby Ring” before you proceed to this week’s story.

“Father, who is this woman?”

After several minutes of silence,”Your grandmother’s twin sister.”

“Twin sisters? I thought they looked a lot alike.”

“No one knew about Anastasiya. She was a few minutes older, but frail and sickly, so your grandmother Caterina inherited the throne. This painting was done secretly during their reunion on their fortieth birthday. Anastasiya was dying.”

“A year later, your grandmother and several cohorts, including the ship’s captain, conspired to sail her home incognito, hence third class. Sadly, the ship sank en route from South America.”

“And the ring?”

“Grandmother had given it to her during their reunion.”
